IKEA Development
International homewares retailer IKEA completed construction of its distinctive blue and yellow $40 million concept store on a seven-hectare site just west of the airport's main gateway at Sir Donald Bradman Drive and Sir Richard Williams Avenue. The 24,000 square metre complex is operated by IKEA's Australian and New Zealand franchisee Cebas Pty Ltd, which also runs the IKEA store in Western Australia. The two-level complex, with landscaped customer parking for more than 950 vehicles, was officially opened on
20 April, 2006.
The development includes sustainable initiatives including water re-use for air-conditioning, packaging compaction, thermal insulating wall panelling and is the benchmark for new IKEA stores world wide. The Swedish Home Retailing icon provides employment for over 350 people, sells furniture, homewares and has a market hall, restaurant and child minding facilities.
The project commenced construction in April, 2005 and was completed in April, 2006.
